Finnish almanacs in Swedish 1623-1727
Finland was part of Sweden until 1809, and Swedish almanacs, usually printed in Stockholm, were used here alongside Finnish almanacs. The Stockholm almanacs were calculated according to the horizon of Stockholm and were intended for the whole Swedish Empire.
However, some of the almanacs of the 17th and 1700s were calculated according to the Turku horizon. They were made for Finns, but published in Swedish.
1. 17th century almanacs
Of the almanacs on the main page of the almanac archive for the 17th century, the following volumes were calculated for Turku. The year is followed by the name of the almanac's calculator, usually a professor of mathematics at the Turku Academy.
1623 | Forsius |
---|---|
1650 | Kexlerus |
1654 | Thuronius |
1665 | Thuronius (one of the 1665 almanacs) |
1671 | Flachsenius (one of the 1671 almanacs) |
1681 | Paulinus (one of the 1681 almanacs) |
1684 | Voigt (one of the 1684 almanacs). |
In addition to these, Turku also produced almanacs for all the almanacs. Their originals are in libraries in Stockholm or Uppsala, and the University of Helsinki has only black and white copies, which are clearly of poorer quality than the almanacs on the main page. However, because of their uniqueness, the almanacs have been chosen to be displayed in our archives. For each almanac, the cover, the first chapter and 12 calendar chapters have been saved in pdf format.

2. 18th century almanacs
In the early 1700s, two almanacs were published in Finnish and Swedish:
1700 | Tammelin 1700 |

1701 | Tammelin 1701 |
The normal life of Finns was severely disrupted during the Great War when the Russians invaded Finland. Therefore, in the early decades of the 1700s, Finnish almanacs were not published for several years, and Finnish almanacs in Swedish according to the Turku horizon (or "61st parallel") were produced in Stockholm, where the Finnish almanac makers had moved. The following almanacs in Finnish Swedish have survived from 1712 to 1727. Of these, Tammelin's almanacs are on the main page for the 1700s, Hasselbom's almanac (although some pages are missing) can be found below in pdf format.
