Calendar manuscript from the 1340s-60s
Before the 1400s, the art of printing was not yet known, so all books were made and copied by hand. A couple of hundred handwritten calendar pages from the 1100s and 1500s have survived in our country.
Below is a sample of one calendar page from the 1340s-60s. It is a parchment sheet from the saint's calendar used in the Dominican monastery in Turku. The manuscript page is in the library of the University of Helsinki and has been scanned online in connection with the Muisti Project.
