Calendars from missals and hymnals 1619–1888
In 2009–2011, the Almanac Office photographed calendar sections of old Finnish mass and hymn books from the National Library. In addition to the calendars listed below, the almanac archive has previously housed the calendar of the oldest book for Finland, the Turku Missal (Missale Aboense) from 1488, and the oldest Finnish-language calendar, the calendar in Mikael Agricola's Prayer Book from 1544.
We thank the staff of the National Library for their kind help. The photos were taken by Asko Palviainen from the University Almanac Office, and Olli Oja assisted and merged the photos into pdf files.

Almost innumerable editions of the Finnish hymnal appeared in the 1700s and 1800s, most of which had a calendar section similar to the above examples. In Swedish hymnals, only the 1673 edition mentioned above had a calendar section. After 1888, there were no more calendars in hymnals.
In the early 20th century, the historical notes of the calendar sections of hymnals, the so-called chronologies, were compiled in a single book, which has also been scanned into the almanac archive.: Ad. Neovius, Suomalainen Ajantieto-kokoelma, Suomal. kirjall. seuran kirjapainon osakeyhtiö 1911.
