Agricola's Prayer Book Calendar 1544
The first Finnish-language calendar appeared in the 1500s. It was published by Mikael Agricola in his Prayer Book in 1544.
In addition to the twelve months of the calendar, the Prayer Book also contained a wide range of other information on matters of the time. Among the information on the calendar, there was a lot of astrology and medieval medicine (e.g. favourable times for injections). Only the opening pages of the Prayer Book, the twelve calendar chapters and the chapter on the year's numerals have been scanned into the almanac archive.
The pages of Agricola's Prayer Book are reproduced from a revised visual edition published in 1987, produced in collaboration between the Institute for the Languages of Finland and WSOY.
