18th Century: The Old Man Stave
Decorated Finnish runic stave from the 1700s. The stave originates from Tammisaari, and is made in the shape of a walking stick. The use of runic staves in Finland declined in the 1700s as the use of paper almanacs spread. The stave is from the collections of the National Board of Antiquities.
