Official Finnish holidays in 2010, 2011 and 2012 The University Almanac Office was established at the end of 1994, when the old privilege of University of Helsinki to publish calendars and almanacs in Finland was abolished. The Almanac Office has a staff of three astronomers. The Almanac Office serves all publishers who wish to make calendars in Finland from school classes to the biggest publishing houses. The main income is from the publication fees of the Finnish name-day list, which is copyrighted by the University of Helsinki, and from ready-made calendar pages that are sold in electronic form to different calendar publishers. The Almanac Office is responsible for the University Almanac, which is a yearly Finnish best-seller with a print-run of about 200 000 copies. The Office also computes local times for sunrise and sunset for over 100 newspapers, local radio stations and airports in Finland. The Almanac Office is publisher of the yearly University Name-day Almanac (established in 1995) which contains all the official Finnish name-day lists (Finnish, Swedish, Sami and Greek Catholic), as well as extensive lists of the most popular first names in Finland for the previous year. From 2009 on, the Name-day Almanac is published in the net. The University Almanac Office is situated at the Observatory, University of Helsinki, and works in close cooperation with the astronomers, but it is administrationally part of Helsinki University Development Services. The Development Services Ltd is a company owned by the University of Helsinki.
